Regional overview
The Quinte Region is located in south-central Eastern Ontario, Canada, and embraces the area along the shores of the Bay of Quinte, with access to Lake Ontario. The region has a large rural base with many small communities, including the municipality of Brighton, and two major urban areas - the cities of Belleville and Quinte West (Trenton).
With a population of 192,000 and a labour force of 93,000, the greater Quinte Region is a major manufacturing centre within east central Ontario. Over 350 manufacturers and industrial support companies are available to serve the needs of businesses. Its strategic location astride Provincial Highway 401 serving as a major transportation corridor between Toronto (90 minutes to the west), Montreal and Ottawa, offers ready access to major markets both within Canada and the United States.
The Quinte Region has become an ideal location for business, offering companies a competitive advantage by way of operating costs, utility costs and local taxes which are often lower than costs and rates in many larger cities.
A further benefit to employers is the low cost of labour relative to other centres within the province. In addition to a strong work ethic, low turnover and absenteeism, employers may take advantage of customized training programs available to manufacturers and professionals. The regional Human Resources Development Canada office has funds available to provide both qualified employers and employees with training and wage subsidies to support economic development within the community.
The Quinte Region enjoys a quality of life that few other communities can compare. It offers a relaxed, small city or rural lifestyle without sacrificing the first class amenities of larger cities. Residents can pursue a recreational lifestyle taking advantage of the area's many beaches, marinas, walking and ski trails, water-based activities and a selection of golf courses.
